Charles Darwin deserves a monument in Washington for many reasons. He was born in The Mount Shrewsbury in England in the 19th century, and grew up to become a naturalist who proposed many theories that changed the world. Although he is most famous for his theory of evolution, Charles Darwin came up with other theories before and after. His first theory he conceived was the evolution of coral reefs, which he published in his book, The Structure and Distributions of Coral Reefs, in May of 1842. When he developed this theory he was on the voyage of the Beagle, but once he got back to England he began to focus on his theory of evolution. After he published his theory of coral reef's evolution, 17 years later, in 1859, he published his most famous theory, the Theory of Evolution, in his book, The Origin of Species. Soon after he published this theory many people began to argue about it because it went against religious beliefs, and most importantly the belief that humans were unique and didn't develop from anything. Overall, Charles Darwin was one of the most influential people in science.
