Charles Darwin deserves a monument in Washington for many reasons. He was born in The Mount Shrewsbury in England in the 19th century, and grew up to become a naturalist who proposed many theories that changed the world. Although he is most famous for his theory of evolution, Charles Darwin came up with other theories before and after. His first theory he conceived was the evolution of coral reefs, which he published in his book, The Structure and Distributions of Coral Reefs, in May of 1842. When he developed this theory he was on the voyage of the Beagle, but once he got back to England he began to focus on his theory of evolution. After he published his theory of coral reef's evolution, 17 years later, in 1859, he published his most famous theory, the Theory of Evolution, in his book, The Origin of Species. Soon after he published this theory many people began to argue about it because it went against religious beliefs, and most importantly the belief that humans were unique and didn't develop from anything. Overall, Charles Darwin was one of the most influential people in science. All of the energy and dedication you put into everything you do is worth it. The quote "The juice is worth the squeeze," is important because it means that although something may take hard work and effort, it will be beneficial later. This applies to my life because if I do good in school, which will take dedication and hard work, I will be successful later in life, as far as college and careers go. In reality, with everything in life we have a choice, put the effort in or don't, and this quote applies to it all. If you're going to make a commitment to something you have to be willing to work for the outcome. The best thing someone could do throughout their life is follow this quote, remembering to put in the work. Even after I graduate this will still apply to me, with my career I want to be the best so I can be more successful. Overall this is a good quote to go by to stay determined.
Do you want your phone being hacked? Well the FBI wants the technology to do so. The FBI requested that Apple creates the software to allow the FBI to hack into terrorist's phones. Some are okay with this, but others have different views. Apple refusing to help the FBI was the right choice.
The FBI wanted to invade citizens’ privacy. According to Newsela, “Basic American rights were at stake, and the purpose of law is to protect people’s rights.” The author of Apple CEO was Right to Defend Basics also wrote, “The Fourth Amendment guarantees people this right to privacy. Individuals have the right to possess information without having to share it with the government.” The outcome of the FBI winning was also written in the article, “If the case had gone forward and the FBI had won, it would justify giving all governments the same powers the FBI wanted. When the time inevitably came, the U.S. government could hardly argue that a foreign government doesn’t have the same right to force companies to aid their investigations.” Giving up your phone privacy also means you are giving up your rights. The Fourth Amendment states that all American citizens have the right to possess private information. Taking away our privacy is taking away our basic American rights. Although the FBI doesn’t want to hack everyone’s phone, if someone else got ahold of this software then they could see everything everyone is doing. The FBI wants the technology to keep away terrorists, but there would still be a chance that terrorists somehow get this software, too. This would cause even more terrorist attacks. There is a very small chance that the United States will be able to stop terrorism, no matter what technology they have. Although hacking into some phones can bring safety there is still a downside. According to Newsela, “And U.S. intelligence experts have warned for years that there may be several thousand Islamic terrorists embedded in America awaiting similar orders.” Even though giving up our phone privacy seems like a small price to pay for safety, is it really worth giving up your rights? Since the United States have endured many disastrous terrorist attacks, most people wouldn’t mind giving up their privacy for the safety of themselves and their loved ones. Privacy is a right, and as long as you live in the United States then you have these rights. Hacking into our phones and invading our privacy is against the law. If terrorist don’t have a phone they are still a threat to the U. S., so what’s the point of taking everyone’s privacy away? Although it is highly unlikely for the FBI to use this technology against us, if an enemy country somehow got ahold of the technology we could be in big trouble. A lot of people wouldn’t want to take the risk, or just don’t want the software that is able to hack into their phones to exist. The FBI would also be forcing Apple to make software they don’t have. The article also states that the FBI was demanding products that Apple doesn’t have, “Consider what the FBI asked Apple to do. The FBI did not ask Apple to turn over information it already had. This was nothing like a search warrant. Apple did not have the information the FBI was seeking — and never had it.” Not only was the FBI asking for advanced technology, but they were also asking for Apple to make that technology. Although the FBI could have gotten the software if Apple had already produced it, they couldn’t because they have absolutely no right to. In the Fourth Amendment it states that the government can use technology if they have a search warrant, but it says nothing about forcing a company to manufacture technology for them. Apple refusing to help the FBI was the right choice. The FBI wants to have access to citizens’ private information. Just because it could bring safety, hacking phones also has many downsides. Apple doesn’t even have the software the FBI is asking for. Have you ever considered being an artist, but didn’t know where to start? Well I can help you. Drawing is a skill that can benefit you greatly in life.
Art has been around for a long time, and as time has gone on it has evolved with technology. According to Wikipedia “Drawing became significant as an art form around 1500...” Answers.com states “Art has actually been around almost as long as the world itself. We can trace early pieces of art as far back as the Paleolithic period, also known as the Ice Age. This was between 35,000 and 10,000 B.C.E. People from stone age already use art…” Art changes a lot with technology available. For example, websites like http://drawisland.com/ allows you to draw online with your computer mouse. According to Deviantart “It's not *easier* if you can't draw on paper/canvas/whatever though. You still have to study and practice all the fundamentals that come with any sort of art.“ Art has been around for longer than when we can trace back to, but archeologists have found pieces of art dating back to the Paleolithic period. That is over 55,000 years ago. As you look back on art throughout the years, you can see that the technology available has a lot to do with the style and look of the art. Not only can you draw on a piece of paper, canvas, and many more things, but you can also do it on electronics. We have so much information and opportunities at our fingertips, and drawing is one of them. There are applications and programs you can download to your computer or mobile device that enable you to draw. Although it’s not easier to draw on one of these applications, it’s still easier to access. This way you don’t have to carry art supplies around with you, and you can just take out your mobile device. Drawing takes a lot of patience, but by following the correct steps it helps the outcome. According to FineArtTips there are 9 steps on how to draw including, “Step #1 Don’t focus mainly on photos when drawing. You also need to draw anything that you can see in the environment...Step #2 As you start drawing, do not focus on the smallest details...Step #3 Some of the best artworks take several days to complete. This is also the same with drawings. You can work on the layout, and you can add the details little by little...Step #4 To complete a work of art, you must think positive and reassure yourself that you can do it...Step #5 Similar to focusing on the big picture, you should start working on simple drawings...If you want to avoid boredom and loss of interest, you need to work on something that you’re passionate about or at least, something that you like… Step #6 Instead of drawing what you know, try to focus on what you actually see… Step #7 Draw in a room where there is proper ventilation, adequate natural sunlight, and properly lit area… Step #8 Simple and clean pieces of paper are enough, and be sure to keep pencils sharp… Step #9 Practice makes perfect.” When I am drawing I follow these steps, but I also have my own way to do things. To draw well you don’t have to follow these procedures exactly, but they’re very helpful. Although some people don’t like to try to draw a photo, I would rather focus on a picture I found online. As soon as I start, I can’t focus on the small details, or it stresses me out. Instead of drawing the small details I draw the shapes that make up what I am drawing, and then draw the big details. Unless it’s small and simple, a drawing will take many days to finish. It takes a lot of time critiquing things to draw something amazing, and it takes a lot of practice. While drawing, I remind myself that, although someone may be better than me, I’m really good and I am still getting better. One of the main things to learning how to draw is to keep a good attitude. When you first begin drawing, with little experience, start simple with something you are interested in, so you don’t have to worry about the process becoming tedious. Although some people might be able to just think of a complicated design and just draw it, most people need to see it in front of them. Try not to think about what it looks like, and actually focus on what it looks like. Along with proper tools, you need to draw in a comfortable room. You’ll get nowhere if you are focusing on how uncomfortable you are. Since art supplies can be expensive, it’s not a must when drawing something simple. All you need is sharpened pencils and a piece of paper. The more you draw, the better you will get. From personal experience, I can say that practicing does improve the outcome greatly. There are many health benefits that come with learning how to draw. According to 10 Great Health Benefits Of Painting and Drawing, “These activities would then play a beneficial role in the development of one’s brain...Thus, they may still enjoy a lot of activities in their lives in spite of their condition,” (Alzheimer's) “...Another point in the long list of health benefits of painting and drawing would involve the opportunity to improve one’s communication with other people...In fact, painting and drawing enables an individual to realize that there can be more than one solution to a single problem… For one, many people use art to release stress… An individual may also develop optimism and feel happier through painting and drawing… In fact, physical pain may even disappear as one is deeply involved in his paintings and drawings… These activities can cause an increase in an individual’s emotional intelligence… These activities can also promote the improvement of the senses… As a result, fine motor skills would arise… He would be able to pay closer attention to finer details.” Along with the confidence you get from knowing how to draw, there are many other health benefits to drawing. Soon after beginning to draw one’s self esteem rises, and they become proud of their work. Those with alzheimer's disease can improve their memory by drawing. People that learn to draw also gain better communication skills, whether it’s through art, or speaking. Drawing will also increase one’s ability to solve problems using critical thinking. Since drawing is so calming, it helps release stress. Just like boosting one’s self esteem, drawing also makes them happier and more positive. Not only does drawing help release stress, but it also can sooth physical pain, too. Although it sounds strange that drawing could get rid of physical pain, it’s so calming that you don’t worry about your injuries. One’s emotional intelligence will increase after beginning to draw, and they become more aware of their surroundings. Someone who draws is more likely to notice miniscule details than someone who doesn’t know how to draw. Along with improvement of the senses, their motor skills will also improve greatly. Overall drawing is a great way to improve your mental, emotional, and physical health. Drawing is a skill that can benefit you greatly in life. Since art has been around for so long, it has evolved with technology. Although drawing takes a lot of patience, following a few simple steps you can master it. Drawing will also increase your health dramatically. 1A. Appease- Verb. relieve or satisfy.
Most people have wished at least once that they were famous, but is it really as extravagant as people make it out to be? I do not think that fame and fortune would bring me happiness. Not all celebrities have gone crazy under the pressure, but a lot have. Although it sometimes looks amazing, being famous isn’t as great as it seems to be. Not only is there stress to be a good performer, but there is also a lot of stress from the attention. Is giving up your happiness, friends, and family, worth all the attention and money?Since everyone is allowed to have their own opinion, there are some people that think that fame and fortune can make you happy. Fame looks exciting and glamorous, but when you take a closer look you see all the downsides. I do not think that fame and fortune could bring me true happiness. Although it sometimes looks amazing, being famous isn’t as great as it seems to be. There is a lot of stress that comes with fame. According to the article, Can Fame Make You Happy?, "Turns out, the happiness that comes from fame is fleeting." It someone were to become famous, it may be fun at the beginning or when they go to prestigious events, but celebrities can never have a normal life style. In fact, because of the stress and pressure that is put on them, a lot of celebrities aren’t very good role models. Mackenzie Carro made many good points about how complicated the celebrity lifestyle is, including, “According to a study at the University of Rochester in New York, true happiness derives from having close relationships, time to focus on personal growth, and connections to your community.” Since celebrities are always on the run, or are given too much attention, they don’t have the privilege of having a simple life. We may think that celebrities have it better than us, but in reality, most of us have it better than them. Granted, they do have a lot of money, and can buy about whatever they’d like to, but they can’t take a break from the paparazzi or their fake friends. Since everyone is allowed to have their own opinion, there are some people that think that fame and fortune can make you happy. The author made several good points on why fame can’t make you happy, but she also made good points on why it could make you happy. A lot of the upsides of fame were stated in the article, “She spends her days doing what she loves. She earns more money from one movie than most people make in a lifetime. Plus, she gets amazing perks, like free clothes from top designers, front-row seats at prestigious award shows, and trips around the world.” Along with amazing advantages, celebrities are also able to do something that isn’t considered cool and make it go viral. Celebrities are living a lifestyle that most people can only dream of having, but is it worth giving up you true happiness? Most people wouldn’t give up their friends or family to get the hottest new clothes, and some people would rather watch award shows in their living room, than in an elegant theatre. When it comes to friends, McKenzie Carro wrote, “But according to Rockwell, it can be difficult for a celebrity to trust others and to make and keep true friends. Stars have to wonder if their “friends” like them for who they are or for what they have.” This makes it very hard to have genuine relationships, and studies show that true happiness comes from close relationships with friends, family, your community, and overall yourself. We've all heard the saying, "Money can't buy happiness," and that is what a lot of celebrities try to do. Not only is there stress to be a good performer, but there is also a lot of stress from the attention. Of course there is pressure on stage, but do you really know what it’s like off stage for celebrities? In the article the author, Mackenzie Carro, states “Beyoncé has said that though she likes attention when she’s onstage, she’d be happier if she could “cut it off” when she isn’t performing and just enjoy her life.” Although I don’t know any celebrities personally, I’m sure that most would say they don’t like that much attention. Mackenzie Carro also writes, "To outsiders, constant attention might seem glamorous. In reality, though, it brings an enormous amount of stress." The attention that celebrities get is outrageous, thus making any of the fun and happiness vanquish. Although celebrities do what they love for a lot of money, I’m sure they get tired of their managers telling them what they are supposed to do, what they’re supposed to look like, and how they perform. Since they are the ones performing, celebrities should be the ones to decide how they would like to do it, right? Well, that’s not the case. Managers are constantly telling celebrities that if they want more fans they will have to change the way they act, eat, dance, etc. A quote from the article says, “...true happiness derives from having close relationships, time to focus on personal growth, and connections to your community.” With managers changing the way celebrities act, it distracts them from working on personal growth. Like studies show, personal growth increases happiness, so no wonder celebrities aren’t as happy as they seem. Fame looks exciting and glamorous, but when you take a closer look you see all the downsides. Along with being criticized, celebrities are expected to change themselves to gratify their fans and managers. They constantly have some type of pressure on them, whether it’s about the attention, about being a good performer, or just that they aren’t happy with the life they are living. Not all celebrities have gotten out of line, but there is a lot that have. This shows that ‘average’ people sometimes do have it better than the celebrities. Most of my day was spent babysitting. I spent a lot of time with my family, including celebrating Christmas with them. The rest of my winter break consisted of using gifts I received, and spending the money I earned. Over Christmas break, I did a lot of exciting activities.
Most of my day was spent babysitting. Although we were on a break from school, I wasn’t on a break from my responsibilities at home. A little while after I woke up my parents would leave for work, and I would have to babysit my little brother. On some days, one of my families close friends would drop off their little boy for me to babysit too. Throughout the day we do many things, from drawing, to building blanket forts, or just watching cartoons. I also babysat a bunch of kids on New Year's Eve for my parents and their close friends. Even though my parents don’t pay me for watching my brother, I do get paid for babysitting other kids. Since I don’t spend whatever money I make right away, I have quite a lot saved up and hope to add on to it. Others might not like the hassle of taking care of kids, even if it’s just for a short amount of time, but I do and I’m glad I was able to spend my Christmas break with them. I spent a lot of time with my family, including celebrating Christmas with them. Family is a big priority for me, so a lot of my Christmas Break was spent with and around them. My family has a tradition to go to my grandparents’ house on Christmas Eve, but this year they were renovating so everyone came to my house. Although it wasn’t like our normal Christmas Eve we all had a great time, and our evening consisted of eating a homemade dinner, opening presents, playing games, and just spending time enjoying each others company. Once everyone left and we cleaned up, we were all pretty tired, so my brother and I went to bed. The next morning we woke up to my parents and sister talking in the livingroom. After we all felt awake my sister, my brother, and I went through our stockings to find sweets, and for my brother, toy cars, and for my sister and I, makeup and gift cards. We continued to open and give presents until there was nothing left but the decorative bows we put on our heads. A little while later, as a tradition, we went to my grandma’s house on my dad’s side of our family. When we got there we were greeted with joyful family members, and the delicious aroma of our dinner being prepared. Since we had some time to pass until dinner was served, we spent the time catching up and playing games. After we ate, we then opened our gifts and thanked everyone. By the time we left we had a lot of fun and a lot of leftovers, but it was pretty late. Since everyone was exhausted we hurried to bed once we arrived home. The rest of my winter break consisted of using gifts I received, and spending the money I earned. Since I had a lot of gift cards that I could use, my mom and I went to the mall a few days after Christmas. We went all over, from store to store, and we spent most of our day there. Like any girl would, we bought quite a bit, which included clothes, furniture, and art supplies. Although I’m not the best at it, I love to draw. Most of the presents I got for Christmas, had something to do with art. Because I had so much art supplies, after Christmas and going shopping, I spent most of the time drawing or painting. I drew a variety of things, and a painted a few things. Other than drawing I read a lot. In fact, I finished two books over break. Overall I had a great Christmas break. I spent plenty of time with my family. When I wasn’t shopping or visiting family, I was reading or drawing. Although people may have had a more exciting Christmas break than me, I wouldn’t have change mine. Currently I’m in 7th grade, and my grade point average for the 1st nine weeks was 4.0 because I’ve had all A’s. I enjoy working with people and figuring out complicated math problems. I would rather work with people than not work with people at all. Everything leading up to this point has lead me to a great job for my future. When I graduate, I want to become a marketing manager.
I will become a marketing manager by going to college and getting my bachelor’s degree. According to the Ohio Means Jobs website there are a few things that I would have to learn like... “Sales and Marketing. I would need knowledge of selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics. English Grammar: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language...Administration and Management: Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and coordination of people and resources.” I will be able to accomplish these goals by staying in school, doing my work, and keep getting straight A’s. Although I may need to work on my studying, I will be very good throughout my years of schooling and I am determined to become a marketing manager. Since many members of my family have careers in marketing I’m already educated in marketing and sales, and I understand new information quick, I will be able to learn more about it. I am not as good with English grammar, so I will really have to work at that aspect of being a marketing manager. I only know a little about administration and management, so I will have to work hard to know everything there is to know about being a marketing manager. In order to become a marketing manager I will need multiple skills that involve math, logic, and communication. According to the Ohio Means Jobs website, I will need to have these skills, “Active Learning: Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making...Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times...Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.” Although I need multiple skills to accomplish my goal of becoming a marketing manager, I will work hard to obtain and perfect these three skills. When it comes to active learning I’m really good, because I can learn new information quick. Although I’m good at active learning I’m not as good with active listening, so I will have to work hard to be better at understanding and listening to people. With critical thinking I’m on the fence of being good at it and not having this skill at all, which means I will have to work hard to try to obtain and perfect this skill. My job as a marketing manager is in demand in Ohio. I will be paid $118,730 a year, but I plan to work my way up from this position. According to the Ohio Means Jobs website, “Ohio will be looking for over 170 marketing managers as the yearly openings. Being a marketing manager pays a medium average of $128,750 a year and an average hourly pay of $62 in the U.S. In Ohio marketing managers get paid $118,730 yearly and an hourly pay of $57. ” Not only will I enjoy my job if I become a marketing manager, but I will be payed well. Although it might not change a lot, the average salary could go up or down within the years of my schooling, so the salaries aren’t certain. I either want to work my way up from this position or I would like to be very good at my job and get paid more than the medium average. Even though I might move around a bit I want to start out in Ohio, which works out well because marketing managers are in demand in Ohio. I will become a marketing manager by going to college and getting my bachelor’s degree. In order to become a marketing manager I will need multiple skills that involve math, logic, and communication. My job as a marketing manager is in demand in Ohio. but I plan to work my way up from this position. When I graduate, I want to become a marketing manager. For career day I thought that it would be a lot like it actually way. I figured there would be stations where certain things happened and I turned out to be correct. As far as money goes I thought that we would be given a piece of paper and every time we bought something we would have to subtract that from however much money you had, and I was very close but instead of us just writing on a blank piece of paper it was more like a worksheet and a checklist. Other than how I thought it would be I wanted it to be many things, too. I wanted to be able to do career day with my friends.
From the career day and reality store I learned that life isn't fair because I had a very low pay with three kids while some of my friends had a very high pay and no kids. I learned that having kids is hard work because you have to rethink everything, for example where you live, what kind of car you drive. Not only do you have to take care of your kids, but you have to take care of yourself and your spouse. I have found a new respect for my parents and for everything that they do for me and my siblings. Out of career day I have realized that life is hard and I need to make sure I get a good education now so I can have an easier life later. Later in the day when we went to the presentations I also learned a lot of valuable things. When I went to a presentation about math I really payed attention because the jobs I am focused on require a lot of math, and I learned that not only will I need math but I will have to communicate with many people. The number one thing I learned from the whole experience is that life won't be easy, but if I get a good education and a good job I'll have it easier than someone who didn't. 1A. Naive- Adjective. As president, Hillary Clinton will improve America by helping with finance problems. According to Politicians: Hillary Clinton, “On her campaign site, Clinton discusses a wide variety of issues she believes in, which includes lowering student debt, criminal justice reform, campaign finance reform, improving the health care coverage and costs of the Affordable Care Act, also called Obamacare, and women's rights (2016).” Hillary Clinton talks about many issues that are important to her on her campaign site. These issues include lowering the amount of money that students owe to colleges, changing the criminal justice system, and making healthcare affordable and expanding healthcare systems. Lowering student debt will allow more people to afford college for their kids, while changing the criminal justice system will make America safer. Along with making college more affordable, Hillary Clinton wants to make healthcare affordable, too. As soon as she makes healthcare affordable it will solve many finance and health problems, and she would also like to make a finance reform. With the finance reform she will be solving many finance problems all around America. Hillary Clinton also wants to enforce women’s rights, which means making sure the pay is equal to men and women for every job, and to break any barriers holding women back. With all these things she would be doing she would be making America great. Solving finance problems would increase the number of jobs around the world, which means that there would be less unemployed people. With less unemployed people our economy could grow and improve. Since Hillary Clinton would be helping people with finances and with health care she would be a great leader for our country. Donald Trump said that he would ensure the right for anyone to own a gun in the United States. According to Trump Accepts NRA Endorsement Despite Past Views on Guns "Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only the law-abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed,’ Trump wrote in a book in 2000, but according to Hillary Clinton on Gun Control, Hillary Clinton said, “We must expand background checks for gun shows and online sales, and close the current loophole that negates the need for a background check after a 3-day waiting period. I will also repeal legislation that shields gun manufacturers, distributors and dealers from liability suits, even in cases of mass shootings.” Although Donald Trump says that encouraging the second amendment to own assault weapons could save many people’s lives, Hillary Clinton states that this means anyone could have a gun at anytime. While many people assume that Hillary Clinton is going to take away their guns, the truth is she just wants to make stronger gun control laws to prevent criminal and mentally ill people from having guns. Hillary Clinton also says that in a situation when someone is injured or killed with a gun they can sue the manufacturer of that gun. Not only could these manufacturers go out of business but they will most likely agree on having stricter background checks when buying a gun. Hillary Clinton wants to make a safer environment for America. According to Clinton and Trump Tangle in Their First Presidential Debate, “She's called for expanding Obama's executive orders if Congress won't pass laws to overhaul the nation's immigration system and for stronger gun control laws.” Also according to Clinton and Trump Share views on Overlooked Science Issues, Hillary Clinton said, “My plan will deliver on the promise that President Obama made at the Paris climate conference. We need to create laws about pollution. This will clean our air, save families money and fight climate change. We should ensure that we are making fossil fuels in a safe and responsible way. We should put money toward creating energy sources that are not fossil fuels.” Hillary Clinton wants to have stricter gun control laws, improve women’s rights, prevent pollution, fight climate change, save families money, and create energy sources that don’t cause pollution. If Hillary becomes president not only will she make the environment safer, but she will also make the environment healthier. She will make women’s pay equal to a man’s pay, and stop women from being held back by social and legal barriers. Although some people may not be happy with the things she is going to do, she is making America better. With stricter gun control laws, citizens will be safer, while using less fossil fuels and more ecosystem friendly energy sources will prevent pollution which will also make a big difference in American’s health. Hillary Clinton states that she plans on improving women’s rights, which will win many votes from women because this is a widespread problem, and with improving women’s rights women’s pay would be equal to a man’s pay which will help women in finances. Along with finances she plans to make healthcare affordable, help families with money so they can send their children to college, and since she plans on making America use more energy sources that don’t cause pollution, energy sources will be cheaper. Overall, America should vote for Hillary Clinton. Although she may have some bad points, she could really improve health in America, and the safeness of the environment. By making stricter gun laws she will keep guns out of the criminals hands and mentally ill’s hands. She will improve health care and make it affordable, donate money to families that can’t afford to send their children to college, and to improve and enforce women’s rights. I support not having soda taxes because some people drink soda responsibly. Some people that do drink sugary drinks are obese, but others may drink a sugary drink every now and then and are healthy. Not only is it unfair for the responsible people to pay more, but since the price is going up on soda the demand will decrease. This will cause small businesses to have less of an income. I can support this because in the article the author writes, "They claim this will hurt small businesses and customers struggling to survive in one of the country's most expensive places." There are some bad points to not having a soda tax, and that is obesity, tooth decay, and obesity. If we do have a soda tax it may solve a big issue, but it could create a whole new one. In the article the author states, "Diabetes is a disease that makes it difficult for the body to regulate its blood-sugar. Experts say that obesity, or being extremely overweight, which is one factor that causes diabetes." Although this is great, there is still going to be an obesity problem. Yes, the percentage of people with diabetes and obesity may go down, but we will always have that problem as long as we have this big of a food supply. Overall I think even if we do approve soda tax there will still be a problem with obesity, and health issues, and that not all people that drink soda have health problems. This is why I support the party that is against soda tax.
What is ScreenFlow? ScreenFlow is an application on your computer where you can record with the built in camera on your computer, record your actions on your computer screen, record sound, and edit afterwards. If you make a mistake you can easily split and delete it and add a transition. You can also add annotations, call outs, scales, transitions, and text boxes. My tutorial and the important parts of my video. For my tutorial I used multiple tools and techniques to show how to use the basic things in ScreenFlow. Some tools I used include scaling, splitting clips, transitioning, call outs, annotations, and text boxes for typing. Some techniques I used were not on the ScreenFlow application for example I listed the things I need to talk about, focused on not making each part too long, and made sure I was speaking clearly and loudly. I think the most important parts of my video are when I demonstrated how to export a video and what the settings should be because without knowing how to export you couldn't share your video. How might SreenFlow be useful in my future? The application ScreenFlow might be useful in my future because there world is just going to get more and more technological, this meaning that our daily lives will have more computers and applications to use. Throughout school I might have teacher that needs to record a lesson but they don't know how to do it, and if I know how to use ScreenFlow I can help them with it. As I said before, the world will just get more high tech so you're going to have to know how to this stuff some day. When I get older I'm, of course, going to have to get a job, and many of the jobs will involve having to be able to work with computers. Because I'm learning to use this kind of equipment it will be a major advantage for me later in school and my life. Who is my hero? My older sister, Kiley Baker, is my hero. Although the world threw everything it could at her, she's still successful in life. Through everything, the accident, a prosthetic, and multiple surgeries, she stayed positive. Her parents are my parents, Mike and Angie Baker, and I'm her younger sister and we both have a younger brother. She is currently working part time, going to college, and trying to set up an appointment to have surgery on her leg. Since there isn't many surgeons who can do this surgery, she has to set an appointment with a surgeon out of state. Once she goes through surgery she won't be able to walk for many months, and it could be that she can't walk for a year. Not only is she going through quite a bit now but she has always had to conquer something. Their characteristics and how they show them. Kiley's characteristics include being courageous, strong, and intelligent. She is strong and courageous because when Kiley was nine she went on a bike ride, but when she went to cross the street infront of our house she was hit. The vehicle that hit her was a dump truck. After the accident she had her left leg amputated. Since she needed serious medical care, she stayed at the Toledo hospital for more than three months. When she got out of the hospital she stayed in a wheelchair for more than eight months. Kiley then got a prosthetic leg that allowed her to walk again. Even after all that she went through she still wanted to be in a sport, so she tried out for cheerleading. She was a cheerleader all throughout high school, and she worked super hard at perfecting everything and creating cheers. What makes her strong is that even after the accident and while being a cheerleader, she still got good grades. Since she got such good grades, she got a lot of scholarships, but she didn't get a scholarship for disability. Why they are my hero and how they relate to my life.
Kiley is my hero because of how inspiring she is. Because she went through everything and still managed to get good grades, that makes me work hard at getting good grades too. Since she was a cheerleader and I thought she was a super cool cheerleader, I became a cheerleader. Although I didn't mention it in the other paragraphs, Kiley was also a great sister through all of it. She was a great sister because if I didn't understand my homework then she would help me with it, and while my parents worked through the day she became the parental figure. She's always put her family before herself and that shows selflessness, which is a good characteristic for everyday life. Overall, because of Kiley, I work harder to improve everything I can, so I can become as successful as she is. This summer I did quite a bit. I hung out with my friends most of the time, especially when something big was happening. My family has this big tradition where we all go to Mohican for the day with my grandparents, aunt and uncle, and my cousins, which was one of my favorite times from summer. We also went camping a lot, and if my whole family wasn't staying then I would stay with my friends that camped there. That was super fun because we could ride bikes, go swimming, and they have hammocks, which are really relaxing. Another big part of my summer was that I celebrated my 13th birthday! I celebrated my birthday by having my friend spend the night and then we went to the New Long Reservoir and met up with my other friend. Overall I had a great summer and I can't wait till next summer.
Some characteristics I have would be that I am responsible and smart. I'm also very ambitious, which is why some short-term goals for me include getting straight A's through middle school, to be a cheerleader through middle school. The way that I am going to get straight A's is by studying hard, paying attention, being organized, being responsible, and just putting everything I've got into school. To be a cheerleader for all of middle school means that I will have to make tryouts next year since I'm already on the cheer team this year. The way to make sure I make tryouts next year is by paying attention this year, staying organized, being on time, and practicing every chance I get. As I said before, I am very ambitious and I know what I want to do with my life. My decision might change as I get older, but right now my long term goals include graduating high school, graduating from a good college, and becoming a banker, and after I become an accountant I'm going to try to work my way up from that. I will get there by working hard at school, keeping my mind set on my future, and doing as much as I can to get scholarships for a good college. FIRST WEEK- AUGUST 29TH- SEPTEMBER 2ND 1A.
